Fitzwilliam Hunt Inter Branch Showjumping

14th October 2012

Class 1
(Written by Tara Murphy)

Our team was:

Tara Black – Coristor
Ella Rutland – Best Buddy
Casey Tuck – Holly
Tara Murphy – Jellybaby

We were 7th to go out of 28 teams, the jumps were 55cm - the course looked nice.

After the 1st round we had total of 8 faults.  Because of the number of teams, only teams with 0 and 4 faults went through to the next round and individual clears.  Casey got to jump again as she went clear in the first round and was super on Holly with a double clear.  Well done Casey!
We all had a great time and thank you Lucy for helping us.

Class 2
(Written by Victoria McIlwraith)

On the 14th of October Katie Cameron, Tara Murphy, Daisy Robinson and I (Victoria McIlwraith) went to Peterborough showground for a team event.  We jumped 2ft6ins. Unfortunately after a fall in the collecting ring Daisy had to drop out of the team but was so supportive and a great team mate, who stayed to watch - thank you.  So only 3 of us left in the team, with me literally wetting myself, thinking we don’t have a chance.

Tara was first to go on Kitty Fisher a grey (beautiful) she did a lovely clear round - she was amazing.  Then it was me – aah, I am going to let the team down.  I trot in nervously and block everything out - it’s just me and Blaze.  I start to jump, wow I am already at fence 8 just one more to go, yes I am over it, I am clear.  I leave the ring with a big smile on my face.

Katie is last to go, I wish her luck.  Katie rides yet another Blaze and they do a lovely clear round and we are through to the jump off with zero faults.  3 teams go through to the jump off on zero.  We watched the other teams and one of them finished both rounds on clear, so we knew we had to go clear and fast.

Then they called Tara’s name, Daisy wished us luck.  Tara comes in to the ring with a smile on her face, she knew she could do it.  I wait at the gate not so sure.  Tara comes out with a double clear in a very fast time of 35.82 putting her into second in the individuals.

Now me, I wait for the bell, then kick on my trusty steed 1,2,4,5 clear only 2 more to jump, I clear the next, I turn to 8 push on, clear in a time of 44.47 - I am so proud.

OK Katie’s turn, you could see the look of determination in her eye it was unbelievable!  I came rushing out looking over my shoulder and shouted good luck but she was already on fence 2 and she jumped the double clear we needed and the lady in the commentary box said “wow that was a very fast time of 32.35 and that puts her into the lead” we all cheered as we knew the worst placing we could be was 2nd.

Then the commentator started to read out the placing’s, in reverse order 6th , 5th, 4th, 3rd , then she got to 2nd we held our breath and she said the Oakley came 2nd, Soham screamed “we have won”.  The Mums cheered, I thought this is the best way to send Blaze off to his new home.  We went to collect our trophy and to find out Katie was 1st individual and Tara was 3rd, well done guys.

I had a lovely day.  Well done to the other Soham teams competing and for winning the overall trophy - won for the most points gained over the day. I hope next year will be just as successful.  I love you Blaze, Kitty, Molly and Blaze, thank you and well done.

Class 3
(Written by Kira Partner)

The 80cm team was the last team to jump and it was getting dark and cold.  The team was Kira Partner, Charis Tighe-Doyle, Katie Webb and Hannah Guze.  They all waited nervously to jump for hours but eventually all the waiting paid off and they went through to the jump off on an unlucky 4 faults.  It was getting really dark so the jump off was in another ring to speed things up.  In the jump off everyone went clear apart from Kira who unfortunately ended up in an ambulance after her horse Milo slipped over but luckily they were both OK.  Eventually all the teams finished and the team came a very well deserved 3rd.  Well done to Charis and Hannah for both getting double clears.  It was a really fun day and our team were all really supportive of each other.

Class 4
(Written  by Amy Stone)

We had a good day Sunday.  The team which was Jess MacIlwraith, Phoebe Plumb, Cleo McGregor and me Amy Stone.  We went through to the second round on 0 which was great.  The second round didn’t go as well as they let Cleo start her round while my mum was still putting up the jump with the course builder!  I finished up on a double clear.  Everyone rode really well and Phoebe did really well as it was her first time in the big arena.  The team ended up on 13 faults and finishing 3rd and I was 5th individually.

Class 5
(Written by Lizzy Barr)

The 1m team consisted of Lizzy Barr, Abi Scott, Lacey Dowse and Amy Drummond. They jumped a fantastic first round; Lizzy, Lacey and Amy each taking an unlucky pole, which meant that Soham successfully qualified for the jump-off in 3rd place.  A few unlucky poles were taken in the jump-off, resulting in Soham just missing out on the placings and finishing in 7th.  The competition was very strong this year and the course also proved to be very challenging for all competitors.

Class 6
The 1m10 class consisted of Jess McIlwraith, Amy Drummond and Sam Stringer.  Amy had 2 rides in  this class. The team were 2nd and Amy Drummond had an individual first place.

1. Amy Drummond on Dr Mac
2. Jess McIlwraith on Bruce
3. Sam Stringer on Poetic Pride
4. Amy Drummond on Honey
5. Tara Murphy on Kitty Fisher
6. Victoria McIlwraith on Kelso Dancer
7. Katie Cameron on Maylands Delight
8. The 75cms team Tara Murphy, Daisy Robinson, Victoria McIlwraith and Katie Cameron with their first place shield
9. Amy Stone on Tomagotchee
