Area Horse Trials

On 20th July we ran the Area 8 Horse Trials at Isleham. It was a successful day, well attended by 20 different pony clubs from our Area. With 240 entries on the day we started at 8.30am with dressage and finished cross country at 6.30pm, luckily avoiding the torrential rain at 7pm.
We ran all 3 levels Open, Intermediate and Novice - it was quite a contest for the qualifying places. The courses proved to be tough with only three members from 35 starters in the open sections going double clear show jumping and cross country without time penalties.
Only 11 double clears in the intermediate from over 60 starters. With 29 teams in the Novice it was a hotly contended competition too. The Pony Clubs that managed to qualify were as follows:
Open Teams
Easton Harriers and West Norfolk
Intermediate Teams
Waveney Harriers, Essex and Suffolk Red
Novice Teams
Suffolk, Newmarket and Thurlow and North Norfolk
The Open and Intermediate teams will go on to the Pony Club National Championships at Cholmondeley Castle and the Novice Teams will go to the Novice Championships at Kelsall Hill in Cheshire.
There were also 15 Individual qualifying places to be filled too, we were lucky enough for one of our members, Jessica McIlwraith on Freddy Curtis to qualify for the Pony Club National Championships in one of the Intermediate Sections, finishing on her dressage score of 26. We would like to wish everyone good luck at the championships.
